Gin, like any spirit drink, does not have a sale-by-date limit. It is a stable drink and the alcohol it contains acts as a preservative. You can therefore keep a bottle of gin for a long time. However, it happens that gin can be altered over time and lose its qualities, especially when certain conservation rules are not respected.
In general, it is recommended to keep gin bottles in a dark and dry place. Strong heat and exposure to direct sun light degrade the qualities of your gin.
It is not necessary to keep the gin in the fridge or freezer; the cold also alters the aromas and flavours of the gin.
The gin bottle has not been opened:
The gin will be kept for many years if you keep your bottles upright. Unlike wines, spirits bottles should not be stored on their sides. It is also preferable for the gin not to be in contact with the cap to prevent the alcohol from degrading it, certainly if the cap is made out of cork.
The gin bottle is already opened :
In this case, your gin is exposed to a greater risk of oxidation. The more air there is in the bottle, the greater the risk of oxidation. It must therefore be drunk relatively quickly in the following months or years, as it will lose its flavour over time.
Also remember to close your bottle well; you must also check that your cap fits well and is tight enough.
At Le Vadrouilleur, we care about the environment, so we use a biodegradable cork stopper. When storing Gin Mistello, just make sure that the cap is well pressed into the neck of the bottle.
