What glass to taste gin?

The gin glass to use depends on how you want to drink the gin. If the gin is consumed pure, drunk in a gin & tonic or another gin cocktail, your glass will be different both in style and format.

The glass to drink neat gin

For an optimal  experience, it is recommended to use a whisky glass or a tulip glass. A whisky glass is a short glass with a thick base and a large bowl, while a tulip glass is a stemmed glass with a bulbous bowl. Both types of glasses allow for a better appreciation of the aroma of the gin thanks to their shape.

For a better flavour, it is recommended to choose a small glass, as it better preserves the flavours of your gin. A smaller glass also helps to keep the drink cool for longer, allowing for a more pleasant drinking experience.

The glass to enjoy a Gin and Tonic

A Gin Tonic is the classic cocktail  composed of gin, tonic and a citrus wedge for garnish. The best glass to use for this cocktail is a tall balloon-shaped one; this type of glass helps maximise the taste and appearance of the drink.

It allows the gin to be the focal point of the drink, while the tonic  helps to bring out its subtle flavours. The citrus wedge not only adds a nice touch of colour and flavour, but also enhances the aroma of the drink. Enjoying a Gin Tonic in a tall balloon-shaped glass is the perfect way to savour this timeless classic.

The glass for other cocktails

Your choice of glass will depend on the cocktail you want to make. Different cocktails require different glass sizes and shapes; the type of glass will affect the presentation of the drink as well as the quantity of liquid it can hold.

For instance, a dry martini is best enjoyed in a Martini glass. This glass is specifically designed for this cocktail and is shaped to hold a larger amount of liquid than other glasses, allowing for a balanced and flavourful drink.

The stem of the Martini glass also allows the drinker to hold the glass without affecting the temperature of the cocktail, as the hand does not come into contact with the bowl. Furthermore, the V-shaped bowl of the Martini glass is designed to concentrate the aromas of the drink, allowing the drinker to fully enjoy the flavour of the cocktail.
