What to drink with gin?

Gin is a fairly versatile drink and you can mix it with many different flavours. It is quite easy to create a good drink as long as you know what ingredients to mix.

Add a tonic

The most popular way to drink gin is to mix it with a tonic to create a Gin & Tonic. The addition of the tonic with its slightly bitter taste enhances and reveals the flavours of gin; it is important to choose a quality gin to obtain a quality cocktail.

The Classic Gin Tonic was developed in the British colonies. To fight malaria, English officers had to take quinine regularly; they mixed it with gin and tonic to mask the taste of the drug. This cocktail based on three ingredients is very easy to make even without experience.

A classic gin and tonic requires mixing ice cubes, gin and cold tonic. You can add a quarter of lemon or a lemon zest as a garnish.

Add sparkling water

Gin is an alcoholic drink with a fairly high alcohol content. It is often drunk diluted. Sparkling water is perfect for lengthening gin and making it less strong. The amount of sparkling water to add depends on your taste.

You can choose a flavoured sparkling water to add extra layers of aromas. The choice of flavoured sparkling waters is very wide and you can easily find the one that best suits your gin..

For our Mistello gin, we recommend that you choose a sparkling lemon water.

Add citrus fruits or summer berries

Gin is made from natural botanicals that develop strong flavours. You can try combining it with summer and spring fruits or citrus fruits as the flavours of these fruits match the basic notes of the gin perfectly. One of the simplest cocktails is a mixture of gin with lemon or gin with strawberries.

You can try to garnish the glass with a lemon or orange zest, a lemon wedge, a strawberry, blueberries. The options are almost endless.

Add botanicals herbs

This is ideal for gins with herbal or floral notes. Try to find an aromatic herb that either complements or contrasts with the flavours of the gin.

You can add a sprig of fresh rosemary or thyme, fresh mint, basil leaves, fresh sage etc.

Our Mistello gin goes very well with rosemary or sage.

Make cocktails

The possibilities of gin-based cocktails are endless. You always choose to strengthen the aromas already present in the gin: lemony with lemon. It is often better to look for flavours that will complement or contrast. A floral gin often does not need more flowers but perhaps a touch of herbaceous or citrus would enhance it more.

We recommend that you consult our cocktail proposals with our Mistello gin.
